Several yoga friends mentioned that they experienced Sciatica pain. I looked it up, trying to find more information. The Chinese interpretation for Sciatica is “Sitting Bone Nerve Pain.”
A popular massage, known as Tui Na, is a TCM therapy to treat Sciatica. Tui means to push; Na means to pull. Basically, the massage presses into the body then pulls the muscles out. Hopefully the push and pull are not too hard to cause pain.
Another TCM method to relieve Sciatica pain is using acupressure points. The first pressure point is located just behind the big toe, and the second is located under the ball of the foot. To release these points, place a tennis ball under the foot and roll it around until a tender spot is located. Apply pressure and hold for 30–60 seconds.
Having chronic pain is no fun, hope this is helpful.
A middle-age yogi expects his body to perform how he wants it to be. He tried not to push it over the ledge, though the ledge is getting closer as he gets older. In a yoga class, the instructor used this quote: “If you listen to your body when it whispers to you, you won’t have to hear it yell later”. He admits that he usually ignored the whispers.
