Tom Robbins is one of my favorite authors - "Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates" is the one I've read twice and "Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas".

"The Art of Hearing Heartbeats" summary reminds me of a fave by Amy Tan - "Saving Fish from Drowning."
